Press Release 0201-25 John H. Woodson Jr. High School to Resume Operations on February 4, 2025

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces that the John H. Woodson Jr. High School will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

This follows the successful completion of deep cleaning efforts in classrooms affected by mold. Testing is scheduled and remediation will occur in areas that have been identified. The Bureau of School Construction and Maintenance (BSCM) retained a qualified contractor who worked diligently to address the issue. Maintenance personnel, representatives from the American Federation of Teachers, and school administrators conducted a walkthrough of the campus today to ensure that the affected areas are prepared for the return of students, faculty, and staff.

The BSCM remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing mold and related environmental concerns in our schools. A proactive, comprehensive approach is being implemented across the Territory to resolve these issues thoroughly and prevent future occurrences.

The VIDE extends its gratitude to parents, guardians, students, and staff for their understanding and cooperation during this time. Your support has been invaluable as we work to create and maintain healthy, safe learning environments for all.
